Korg Electribe EMX-1

Producers wanting the Electribe workflow with actual sampling built in, not just synthesis and PCM playback.

Strengths

  • Combines the original Electribe's analog-modeling synth voices with real PCM drum samples, closing the biggest gap of the 1999 originals
  • A proper sampling function lets you record your own sounds into patterns, something the EA-1/ER-1 pair couldn't do at all
  • More sequencer memory and a bigger screen make it noticeably faster to work with than its late-90s predecessors

Trade-offs

  • Later and more capable than the original Electribes, which also means less of the raw lo-fi charm collectors specifically chase
  • Still a fairly deep-menu device once you go past its immediate knobs, same as the rest of the line
